An Oxnard deejay arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old Camarillo youth at a house party in Camarillo was out of jail Friday after posting bail, a Ventura County Jail spokeswoman said.

David Munoz, 33, will be charged with manslaughter, said Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. James Ellison.

Munoz is set to be arraigned Oct. 9, Ellison said.

“It’s the kind of situation that the filing is based on the witnesses that have come forward so far,” Ellison said.

But dozens of witnesses have not come forward, he said.

“Even people that were covered with blood deny seeing anything,” Ellison said.

What witnesses have indicated so far is that Munoz fired a weapon to break up a fistfight at a party held on Peoples Avenue in Camarillo last weekend, authorities said.

One of the shots struck Hugo Meza of Oxnard. He underwent surgery but died a few hours later.

The fight had broken out after someone had knocked over a lighting fixture belonging to a disc jockey hired to provide music. Several people tried to break up the fight, and in the ensuing melee shots were fired, investigators said.

Jose Espinosa, 18, of Camarillo was shot in the left leg.

After the shooting early Sunday morning, sheriff’s investigators arrested Munoz and his assistant, Luis Ruiz, 30. Ruiz was released a few days later.

Munoz posted the $20,000 bail Thursday, a jail spokeswoman said.

If convicted of manslaughter, Munoz faces a maximum sentence of four years, plus a possible additional mandatory sentence of three to 10 years for using a firearm, Ellison said.
