An Oxnard man died and his two companions were seriously injured in a single-car accident early Friday.

Norman Pedrozo Peralta, 20, died from head injuries at the scene of the accident about 3:15 a.m. on the Ventura Freeway just south of Del Norte Boulevard, a Ventura County coroner’s spokesman said.

Peralta was a passenger in a car driven by Eric Galler, 20. The northbound car drifted off the highway, then bounced off a metal guardrail, struck a highway sign and flipped over, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Galler was taken to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital, and passenger Jeremy Cabanilla, 21, also of Oxnard, was in serious condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center with major chest injuries and a fractured leg.

Traffic investigators said that alcohol was not involved in the accident, and that Peralta was wearing his seat belt.
