Teens at Disneyland

Share

I read with great interest “Cruising Mickey’s Turf” (Sept. 22).

I am very puzzled. An Anaheim Police Department officer described the youths who frequent Disneyland on Friday nights as, “misdirected delinquents, rather than gang members.” He further states, “When they have been drinking, they taunt tourists, they use spray paint, they throw bottles, camp out.” The article continues, giving other behaviors of these “misdirected delinquents,” drug possession and use, harassment and intimidation of tourists.

This may come as a surprise to some, but the “misdirected delinquents” of Anaheim would be called and known as “gang” members in the ‘hood. Gang behavior is gang behavior; however, in South-Central Los Angeles our youths are labeled “gangbangers” or “gangstas,” whereas in Anaheim the youths are known as “Gothics,” “punks,” or “rockers.” Go figure!
