2-Day Event to Honor Iranian Heritage
Orange County’s Iranian community will celebrate Mehregan, a holiday marking the beginning of autumn, at Lakeside Park in Irvine.
The Oct. 11-12 festival celebrating Iranian heritage will feature live music, food, costumes and other activities. Organizers expect 15,000 to attend, making it the biggest event of its kind in Southern California, said organizer Farrokh Shokooh. More than 10,000 attended last year.
Also known as the Persian Festival of Autumn, the day emphasizes love, knowledge and commitment, Shokooh said. The Orange County Board of Supervisors recently recognized the holiday.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children. The event runs both days from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Lakeside Park is at Irvine Center Drive and the San Diego Freeway.
