Avant-Garde Artists to Share Their Work

Share

If freeway whale murals aren’t quite your aesthetic speed, check out the “Tuesday Talks” with avant-garde artists, sponsored by Focus on The Masters.

This series of interactive discussions with the area’s most provocative artists will return to downtown Ventura Oct. 7. Last year, the talks were held at various spots around the county.

During the talks, artists share their work, thoughts, muses and life stories.

“The artists really are amazing,” said Donna Granata, founder of Focus on The Masters. “The talks bring these artists--who normally are very isolated--to the forefront of the community.”

The first speaker of the year will be Ventura sculptor Doug Spaulding, whose mixed-media creations often include an element of environmentalism. He will talk about his journey from classical schooling to traditional bronze sculptures to his present, funkier style.

The talks are returning to the downtown Livery, thanks to sponsorship from Cafe Voltaire, Sol Ramon and the Richman Peace and Police Foundation.

The talks will start at 7 p.m. at the Livery performance studio, 34 N. Palm St.

They are free to Focus on The Masters members and students under 18, and $5 for the general public.

Reservations are required. For information or reservations, call 649-9366.
