County to Seek Bids for Hospital Repairs
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously this week to seek bids to repair $2.7 million in structural steel damage to the sixth floor of Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.
An inspection by the county Department of Public Works found the damage shortly after the 1994 Northridge earthquake, according to Dennis Morefield, a spokesman for the county. He said the most extensive damage is contained in the Sylmar hospital’s sixth-floor structure.
“As soon as the bid process is complete, repairs will begin,” said Cam Currier, a spokesman for the Board of Supervisors.
The repairs will include rebuilding the roof, replacing loose structural bolts and welding cracked steel connections that help support the building.
