Ex-Chancellor Blevins Takes Post in Midwest
Former Rancho Santiago Community College District Chancellor Vivian B. Blevins has been named the top administrator of the St. Louis (Mo.) Community College District.
Blevins, 58, resigned from her post as Rancho’s chief administrator last year, saying she wanted to move closer to her family in the Midwest and was pursuing a job there.
She served as chancellor of the district that governs Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon colleges for five years. Most recently she was an English professor at Santiago Canyon College.
“I resigned prematurely,” Blevins said Thursday. “[But]
I’m just looking to the future now. I would not have missed the California experience for the world. I have learned so much about cultural issues, and my teaching here has been phenomenal. I have learned so much about the community college world.”
Her students and fellow faculty members said they will miss her and are planning a farewell party for her before the spring semester concludes.
Blevins is credited with implementing successful programs for minorities and with boosting the student transfer rate to four-year colleges and universities. She will assume her new post June 1.
The St. Louis district oversees three community colleges and has a reputation for aggressively implementing innovative programs.
