School Playground Granted Upgrading
A $25,000 grant will enable the Ojai Unified School District to install playground safety mats this summer at a neighborhood park planned on the grounds of Meiners Oaks Elementary School.
The money comes from the California Integrated Waste Management Fund, which sees the program as a way to recycle the millions of used tires that clog landfills around the state.
The safety mats will replace wood chips that were to be used as part of a $200,000 renovation and expansion of the school’s playground into a park for the unincorporated community near Ojai.
