A suspect in the slaying of teacher Charlotte Snowden-Meissner, whose body was found inside her home near La Habra, surrendered to authorities in Maryland and was being questioned Monday by Orange County sheriff’s detectives.

Roy Edward Wallace, 44, walked into the Frederick County sheriff’s office Saturday and turned himself in, a department spokeswoman said. According to the spokeswoman, Wallace said he was a suspect in a homicide in California.

Sheriff’s investigators had been looking for Wallace since March 29, when Snowden-Meissner’s body was found in her bedroom. Orange County sheriff’s investigators said that Wallace had been a house guest of the 59-year-old woman who taught English to immigrants.

Wallace was driving Snowden-Meissner’s 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup truck when he surrendered, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Hector Rivera said.

Orange County officials have forwarded a copy of an arrest warrant charging Wallace with murder, and extradition proceedings are pending, Rivera said.
