14 More Owners in Slide Area Join Others in Suing

Fourteen more homeowners filed suit Tuesday against the developer and builder of a Laguna Niguel neighborhood where four homes have tumbled down a hillside in recent weeks, attorneys said.

A dozen other homeowners already have sued Hon Development Co. and J.M. Peters Co. Inc., alleging emotional distress and lost home values, according to the suit. The homes were built in the 1980s and had sold for about half a million dollars, said Ken Kasdan, who represents the owners.

“As the news about the devastation in the Niguel Summit community caused by the landslides continues to inundate the market, the values of the homes in and around that area are plummeting,” Kasdan said.

Other lawsuits also have been filed over the years by residents who claim that even before recent storms sent the four houses tumbling, ground movements damaged their homes in the upscale community of 1,400 houses.
