Tiana Fries, a seventh-grade student at Sinaloa Middle School, won top honors in a poster contest for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center’s upcoming telethon with a vivid montage of different art forms interspersed among the center’s motto “Explore the Arts.”

Tiana’s work, which includes depictions of musicians, dancers, actors and artists, will be used to publicize the center’s annual fund-raising telethon, which will be aired on Channel 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. April 29.

The 12-year-old, along with two other award winners--Jerald Bolden of Simi Valley High School and Danny Sullivan of Grace Brethren School--each received a $100 savings bond. The contest drew 500 entries.

The telethon will begin with a silent auction, which will include items donated by Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), state Sen. Cathy Wright (R-Simi Valley) and Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton.

The items will be on display from 1 to 5 p.m. April 26.

Money collected from the telethon will be used to increase the center’s endowment. For more information, call 583-1018 or 581-2223.
