Comments on Metrolink Rate Hikes Sought

Share

Metrolink, the county’s commuter rail system, is seeking public comment on several proposals to increase rider fares.

Plans call for raising the rates as much as 14% by 2002. That means a rider who spends $8.50 for a one-way trip from San Clemente to Los Angeles could pay $1.25 more in four years.

Metrolink officials said the rate increase is needed because transportation bond funds that previously financed much of Metrolink’s stations, tracks and train equipment have been exhausted and higher tax subsidies are unlikely.
