Matadors Sweep New Mexico State

Tara Glaister and Cheri Shinn each pitched a two-hitter and Cal State Northridge swept New Mexico State, 3-0 and 2-0, in a Big West Conference softball doubleheader Monday at Northridge.

Glaister (13-8) struck out 10 batters and walked two in the the first game.

Shinn struck out three and walked one in the second game.

Chelo Lopez hit a three-run double in the fifth inning of the first game.

Lisa Flores hit a home run in the second game.

Northridge improved to 28-15, 15-7 in conference play. New Mexico State is 30-21, 13-9.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Pepperdine 5-3, Loyola Marymount 0-5--Will Ohman (1-4) retired four of the five batters he faced in the first game for host Pepperdine (25-16, 14-4) to earn his second save but allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss in the second game of a West Coast Conference doubleheader at Eddy D. Field Stadium in Malibu.

Michael Kramer drove in three runs with three hits in the first game for Pepperdine.

Anthony Angel had a two-run double and Scott Walter had a two-run single for Loyola Marymount (20-16-1, 10-5) in the second game.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Calabasas 1, Moorpark 0--Sophomore Amy Rosson pitched a three-hitter, struck out 26 and walked three in a 16-inning Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Heather Bell singled in Kelly Cheever, who reached base with her second hit and advanced to third on two wild pitches, with nobody out in the 16th.

Bell and Sara Hall each had three hits for Calabasas (7-4-1, 4-0), but the Coyotes stranded 12 runners.

Nordhoff 5, Santa Clara 4--Beth Cain (2-6) pitched a five-hitter and drove in the game-winning run with a one-out, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff (2-8, 1-4).

Colleen Cain, Beth’s sister, had a two-run double in the first.

COLLEGE GOLF

Western State Conference Match No. 7--Justin Solberg shot an even-par 72 and teammate Carlos Robledo fired a 75 to lead College of the Canyons to victory in the match at Saticoy Country Club.

Canyons (27-1 in WSC play) had a 385-stroke total, followed by Santa Barbara City with 403 and host Ventura with 408.

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Golden League match--Jason Broome shot an even-par 72 and and Eric Wright scored 76 to lead Highland to a record-setting victory in the Golden League match at Antelope Valley Country Club.

Highland shot 403 to set a school record. The previous record was 404.

Notre Dame 196, Harvard-Westlake 204--Kevin Coghlan, Tommy Barber and Nolan Lim each shot three-over-par 38 at Lakeside Country Club for host Notre Dame (10-3, 8-1) in a Mission League match. Bryan Zelner of Harvard-Westlake shot 38.
