Car Overturns; 2 Women Are Slightly Hurt

Two women escaped with only minor injuries Thursday afternoon when their car ran up an embankment on Foothill Road and flipped over, landing about 50 feet down the street upside-down.

The driver, Anne Lombard of Ventura, 63, was headed eastbound on Foothill Road when she apparently fell asleep, said Officer Rod Giles of the Ventura Police Department. The accident occurred near the intersection of Foothill and Day roads.

The severe angle of the embankment caused the car to roll onto its side, Giles said.

Lombard and her passenger, Lynn Lefcourt, also of Ventura, were treated at Ventura County Medical Center and released. “They are very lucky,” Giles said. “Fortunately, they were wearing their seat belts, and that’s probably what saved them from getting thrown out of their car.”
