** 1/2 Various artists, “City of Angels” soundtrack, Warner Sunset/Reprise. Recycled tracks from U2, Paula Cole and Sarah McLachlan approximate the patina of a Wim Wenders soundtrack. But two new tracks--Alanis Morissette’s soaring “Uninvited” and Peter Gabriel’s typically melancholic “I Grieve”--both frame the film’s conflicted-angel emotions effectively and offer tantalizing previews of their much-anticipated next albums. Morissette especially shows growth, with snaky, modal strings and rich, rounder vocals.
