Web sites focusing on health, government and investing won this year’s Global Information Infrastructure Awards, which will be announced today in Chicago at the Comdex Spring ’98 trade show. Eleven sites were selected for awards from among more than 800 entries by a panel of judges, including Internet architect Vint Cerf, computer guru Esther Dyson and former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt.

Among the sites being honored are OncoLink (https://www.oncolink.upenn.edu), a multimedia cancer resource; IndyGov (https://www.indygov.org), which provides online access to Indianapolis’ local government; Servenet (https://www.servenet.org), a Web site devoted to volunteering; and GUSTO (https://www.globus.org), the world’s first high-performance computational grid that shares supercomputing resources at several government labs and universities, including USC’s Information Sciences Institute.

Corporate winners include Charles Schwab’s online brokerage service (https://www.schwab.com), which now handles 40% of the company’s trades, and Yahoo’s Internet directory (https://www.yahoo.com).

Film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert will announce the winners, who will receive trophies.
