California Amplifier Posts $2.67 Million Loss

California Amplifier in Camarillo reported a net loss of $2.67 million or 23 cents per share for the year ended Feb. 28, compared to net income of $633,000 or 5 cents per share a year earlier.

Chief Executive Officer Fred Sturm said the decline in sales resulted from several factors, primarily weaker-than-expected demand in Latin America, continued softness in the domestic wireless cable market and reduced levels of satellite product shipments in the third quarter due to completion of major contracts serving Canada and New Zealand.

Two new products were introduced at the National Assn. of Broadcaster’s trade show, Sturm said, and recent product introductions for the wireless cable market have focused on supporting key customers who are competing for new licenses in Mexico and Brazil.
