FESTIVAL OF BOOKS
Join some of your favorite cookbook authors and chefs at the third annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books Saturday and Sunday on the UCLA campus. Cooking-related events include four panel discussions and two cooking demonstrations. Authors will sign their books after their events.

Conversation: Isabel Allende on Love and Food
Novelist Isabel Allende talks about the myths, personal stories and aphrodisiac recipes in her latest book “Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses” with Larry Mantle, program and news director of KPCC Public Radio.

Discussion: The “I” in Food Writing
Ruth Reichl, New York Times restaurant critic and former Los Angeles Times Food editor and restaurant critic, and Jeffrey Steingarten, Vogue food columnist, discuss their culinary memoirs and personal writing styles with Times Food Editor Laurie Ochoa.

Santa Monica chefs Hans Rockenwagner of Rockenwagner and 72 Market Street’s Roland Gibert face off in a live cooking demonstration.

Chef Talk: New Orleans Spice and Chicago Cool
New Orleans chef and TV cooking show star Emeril Lagasse and Chicago chef Charlie Trotter discuss their cooking styles, their restaurants and their cookbooks. Moderated by Santa Monica chef Hans Rockenwagner.

Discussion: Healthy Eating--Is It?
Just what is healthy eating? Vegetarianism? Spa cuisine? Seasonal cooking? Pathogen-free food? Join the provocative and free-wheeling discussion with cookbook authors Deborah Madison (“Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone”), Shirley Corriher (“Cookwise”), Mark Peel and Nancy Silverton (chefs and authors of “The Food of Campanile”) and Michel Stroot (chef and author of “The Golden Door Cookbook”). Prodding the participants will be moderator and Vogue food columnist Jeffrey Steingarten.

Cooking Demonstration: Two Chefs and a Hot Plate, The Sequel
Emeril Lagasse and Charlie Trotter return for a live demonstration of their cooking skills.
4 p.m., Barnes & Noble Stage
Admission to the festival and author panels is free, but guests must have tickets to attend the author panels.
There is no charge for the tickets. They are available until 5 p.m. April 23 at most Southern California Ticketmaster locations and at the festival on Saturday for Saturday panels and on Sunday for Sunday panels. Tickets are not required for children’s events or other special programming.
