Share

For a taste of Buddhist tradition and Japanese art and food, consider visiting the daylong Fujimatsuri festival May 2 at the Oxnard Buddhist Church.

The public is welcome to the celebration of the birth of Shinran Shonin, founder of the Jodo Shinshu school of Buddhism. Fujimatsuri translates from Japanese to “wisteria festival.”

Throughout the day, groups will demonstrate Japanese drumming, traditional folk dancing, the art of bonsai, judo, karate and games. All demonstrations and exhibits are free. Popular Japanese foods such as teriyaki, sushi, udon and manju will be sold.
