Sheriff’s to Get New Fingerprint ID System

Share

The purchase of a $6.3-million fingerprint identification system for the Sheriff’s Department has been approved by the Board of Supervisors.

The Cal-ID system will improve the Sheriff Department’s ability to process fingerprint information for all law enforcement agencies in the county, said Lt. Hector Rivera.

Orange County school districts also will benefit, he said.

“The safety and welfare of our schoolchildren is a vital concern, which is why the Sheriff’s Department will use the new system to conduct expedient fingerprint searches of all prospective school employees,” he said.

Funding for the new fingerprint ID system comes from the new $1 vehicle registration fee, the Department of Motor Vehicles and the County Public Safety Tax Excess Revenue Fund, he said.
