Officer Pleads Not Guilty to Sexually Assaulting Motorist
A South Gate police officer pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of sexually assaulting a female motorist he allegedly pulled over on Easter morning, authorities said.
Robin Craven, 34, also pleaded not guilty to charges alleging that he removed a traffic citation from the police station that was written against a female friend by other officers, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Nicholas Koumjian.
If convicted on all charges, Craven faces a maximum sentence of eight years and eight months in prison, Koumjian said.
Craven allegedly stopped the 25-year-old victim in Walnut Park just before 3:30 a.m. April 12.
“This is scary, because people, especially women, need to have confidence that when they’re pulled over by a police officer in the middle of the night, nothing bad is going to happen to them,” Koumjian said.
Craven is scheduled to appear again for a preliminary hearing Aug. 12.
