Camerata to Hold Auditions Today

Anyone familiar with classical music knows works by composers such as Vivaldi and Ravel, but what about “Address to a Toothache”?

Probably not. But that’s the point.

It’s all part of the Ojai Camerata’s mission to expose music aficionados to some of the lesser-known pieces of famous masters.

Camerata refers to a chamber that housed a smaller group and a more intimate setting.

“You could picture some dignitary wanting to have a concert in his sitting room,” said Marilyn Wallace, a member of the board of the Ojai Camerata.

The 16- to 20-member amateur vocal chamber choir also looks for compositions by women composers and new composers. Three performances are given from September through May.

Anyone with a love for music, a good voice and musical training will have an opportunity to join the group through open auditions today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Nordhoff High School band room in Ojai.

There will be a second set of auditions at 2 p.m. at the home of voice instructor Linda MacKinnon at 895 E. Main St. in Ventura.
