All About Sonoma

Nothing helps you understand wine like good, detailed wine country maps. Hugh Johnson has made a career of providing them, but his “World Atlas of Wine” gives only a fraction of the detail shown in these five gorgeous maps of the Sonoma County wine country (Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, Russian River, Knights Valley and Sonoma Valley). Each covers a 26-by-32-mile area, scaled at one inch to the mile, and shows water courses, rural roads and local landmarks as well as all the vineyards and their elevations and exposures. There are also graphs of the minimum and maximum temperatures and average rainfall by month. Only 2,500 sets have been printed.

Sonoma County Wine Maps, set of five for $55 including shipping and handling, from SCGGA Maps, P.O. Box 1959, Sebastopol, CA 95492.

This is the time of year for seaside fun, so here are some cocktail napkins with sly little beachy designs--a lobster, a sloop, a pair of thongs.
