Another Street Camera Is Placed to Film Stoplight Violators

The city has installed a camera to monitor the intersection of Whittier Drive and Sunset Boulevard in a crackdown on drivers who run red lights.

There are two other camera-monitored intersections in Beverly Hills, at Wilshire and La Cienega boulevards and at Spalding Drive and Olympic Boulevard.

The program’s purpose is to reduce traffic accidents caused by drivers who ignore traffic signals, said city spokeswoman Donna Reyes. Police officers use the photographic evidence to cite the owner of vehicles via mail.

Motorists who are cited for running a red light must pay a $270 fine or contest the citation in court.
