City Increases Hours of Free Parking in Old Town

Share

Seeking to entice more morning customers to Old Pasadena, the City Council has voted to make street parking free before 11 a.m., three hours later than present.

But the council also voted Monday to charge more to those who park on streets there Friday and Saturday nights by having the parking meters run until midnight instead of 8 p.m.

The change is designed to encourage Pasadena residents to use the restaurants and shops in the mornings and shift some of the expense to those parking in peak periods.

City officials said that with Old Pasadena’s growing popularity in recent years, many residents are steering clear of the district and its parking meters.

Council members also approved increasing the free parking time at the city’s two parking garages from one hour to 90 minutes.
