Share

The City Council has agreed to pay $142,000 to a Sacramento-based architectural firm that will design a renovation of E.P. Foster Library.

The two-story library at 651 E. Main St., built with reinforced concrete in 1959, serves as the city’s main branch.

In all, the renovation project will cost $1.5 million and will include expanding the downtown library’s public space to the second floor, upgrading structural, electrical and mechanical systems and improving access for disabled people.

The city hopes to begin the renovation work next spring.

The architect chosen, Oshima & Yee, was one of 10 firms that bid for the job and was recommended to the council by the city’s Library Advisory Commission.
