Classes Set to Train Family Volunteers

Share

Classes that teach volunteers to work with families at risk for child abuse will begin later this month.

The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center offers a series of courses in conjunction with its Welcome Baby and Tender Care parenting programs.

Upon completing the training, volunteers go into the homes of families with new babies and older children to teach appropriate parenting techniques.

Parents who are at high risk of committing child abuse are often referred to the center through doctors, social workers and outside social-services agencies, said Dede Ginter, a center spokeswoman.

“Primarily they’re single parents, young women with no support system,” Ginter said.

Classes will be Tuesday to Aug. 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Child Abuse Prevention Center, 2482 Newport Blvd., Suite 3.

Information: (949) 722-1107.
