A 2-year-old boy pulled unconscious from a Canyon Country pool and revived by a bystander was in good condition Wednesday at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

The unidentified toddler apparently fell into the pool at his family’s apartment complex in the 18700 block of Mandan Street around 9 p.m. Tuesday, fire officials said.

The quick-thinking bystander pulled the boy from the pool and began resuscitation efforts which helped clear his lungs of water and enabled him to breathe on his own, said Henry Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The rescuer, who appeared to be in his 20s, was not named by fire officials.

Firefighter John Baker said the boy was crying but otherwise in good condition by the time paramedics arrived. “Whatever [the rescuer] did, it was the right thing because the kid started breathing again,” Baker said. “He was really excited that he was able to help.”

Childrens Hospital spokesman Steve Rutledge said the boy was in good condition and would be released from the hospital today.
