Sylmar Man Named City’s Administrator
Ending its months-long search, the city of San Fernando announced Friday that its new city administrator is John Ornelas.
Ornelas, currently deputy city administrator for the city of San Gabriel, will assume his new job Aug. 31.
“I’ve spent many hours with each of the [San Fernando] council members,” said Ornelas, 47. “They all spoke to me about what they see San Fernando becoming . . . I’m very excited.”
Mayor Raul Godinez II said the council chose Ornelas, who lives in Sylmar, because of his background in economic development, an attribute city officials made a priority throughout the interview process.
Ornelas, who has a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and 20 years of city administrative experience, “has a strong record of accomplishment,” Godinez said.
