U.S. Comes From Behind to Advance to Final Four
Trailing by seven points with less than five minutes to play, the United State came back to defeat Italy, 80-77, Friday in the quarterfinals of the World Basketball Championships.
Italy’s Carlton Myers missed a three-point shot from 28 feet with seven seconds left to seal the victory.
Michael Hawkins led the U.S. with 16 points, and Wendell Alexis had 14.
Myers finished with a tournament-high 32. He made all 15 of his free throw attempts.
The U.S. plays Russia and host Greece faces Yugoslavia in today’s semifinals.
