Reds Find Runs Cheaper by Dozen
As the Cincinnati Reds piled on the runs, everyone in the dugouts sensed they might never see an inning like the sixth again.
Reggie Sanders, Sean Casey and Aaron Boone hit bases-loaded doubles in the 12-run inning Friday as the Cincinnati Reds overwhelmed the Milwaukee Brewers, 17-0.
The largest shutout win in the majors in three years left the losers stunned.
“That might be the most humbling inning I’ve ever been in,” Brewer Manager Phil Garner said. “It might be the most resounding defeat in my whole career.”
It was Cincinnati’s biggest inning since 1989, and the most runs given up by Milwaukee in one inning.
The Reds sent 16 batters to the plate against Brad Woodall (5-6) and two relievers. They got four plate appearances with the bases loaded and produced a walk and three doubles as they pushed the lead to 14-0.
