Suns Shine With 2nd Win After Chief’s Departure
A day after the team’s president reluctantly resigned under a cloud of controversy, the Pacific Suns won a second consecutive game Saturday afternoon at Oxnard College.
The ballclub, described as having the country’s worst minor league won-loss record (16-50), beat the Tri-City Posse in a game played before about 100 fans.
The Suns beat the same team Friday night, 10-5, also at home.
“Winning two in a row helps,” said Michael Begley, the Suns’ general manager.
Also on Saturday, the 21 members of the Suns’ roster received their paychecks--three days late, which had prompted a walkout by players Thursday night, resulting in a forfeit.
On Friday afternoon, Suns founder and board President Don DiCarlo resigned and handed over his majority voting control to Oxnard restaurateur and stockholder Michael Koutnik.
Koutnik has told players that a new investor is funding the team for the remainder of the season, which ends Sept. 2.
Details about the investor, an unidentified San Fernando Valley man, were not released.
