William Joseph Gommer; Conejo Valley Mason

William Joseph Gommer, a construction worker and mason who had lived in the Conejo Valley for 34 years, died Saturday after a sudden illness. He was 49.

Born in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 15, 1948, Gommer’s Midwestern roots showed in his hospitality to friends and others whose lives he touched. He moved to Thousand Oaks at 16 and was a graduate of Thousand Oaks High.

Gommer was known for his expert work in masonry and construction, which he did most of his adult life.

Gommer is survived by his mother, Margaret Gommer, and his sister, Jan Daly, both of Ventura; four nieces and seven great-nieces and -nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions in Gommer’s name to the American Heart Assn. of Ventura County, 2500 E. Las Posas, Camarillo, CA 93010.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
