Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies pepper-sprayed and shot a 30-year-old woman Monday after she allegedly charged them with a baseball bat and a knife.

Deputies investigating a routine domestic violence call in the 3500 block of Koufax Drive encountered an unidentified woman accused of beating her husband who refused to disarm herself, Deputy Boris Nikolof said.

“Her husband was the victim,” he said.

Nikolof said two deputies confronted the woman in an upstairs bedroom of the house and ordered her to drop the bat and a knife.

“She did not comply, so they pepper-sprayed her,” Nikolof said.

The woman then charged the deputies, one of whom shot her in the right shoulder, Nikolof said. The woman briefly retreated into a bathroom, then surrendered.

The woman, who was being held on suspicion of spousal assault and assault on a peace officer, was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster. Her wound was not life-threatening, deputies said.
