Ex-Rivals Robinson, Donahue to Speak

Former rival college football coaches Terry Donahue and John Robinson, who coached at UCLA and USC, respectively, will speak at a fund-raising dinner Friday for Cal State Northridge’s football team.

At the dinner, titled “Legends of the Game,” Donahue and Robinson will present their insights into coaching and discuss their philosophies on life, said Ron Ponciano, head coach of the CSUN Matador football team.

The two coaches will also offer a behind the scenes look at what motivates coaches and players.

“John and Terry are two of the greatest college coaches in Southern California history and we are extremely honored to have them at our inaugural dinner,” Ponciano said.

Also included in the dinner will be a silent auctioning of a 1998 Super Bowl football autographed by members of the champion Denver Broncos, a jersey signed by Detroit Lions’ running back Barry Sanders, and golf and vacation packages.

Money raised from the event will fund scholarships for CSUN football players, equipment and meals, Ponciano said. The event is expected to raise between $30,000 and $50,000, he added.

The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. at the Warner Center Marriott, 21850 Oxnard St., Woodland Hills.

Admission is $125 per person.
