A man stabbed several times during a family argument remains in a hospital critical care unit Friday, authorities said.

The fight broke out shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday in the 4000 block of Anchorage Street between Redimeo Acierto and his nephew, Jeric Apiado.

When officers arrived, Apiado was lying in the middle of the street bleeding from stab wounds in the hand, arm, back and abdomen, said Sgt. Dan Christian of the Oxnard Police Department.

While on their way to the house, police spotted a car with no lights on speeding away.

Authorities said the car belonged to Acierto. When police interviewed him, they noticed his hand was bleeding from an injury, Christian said.

Both men were taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where Acierto was treated and released. Apiado underwent surgery, hospital spokeswoman Amy Sullivan said, adding that he is in stable condition.

Witnesses told police the two were arguing over family problems. Acierto was booked and jailed on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Christian said.
