Saugus Man Killed in Crash on Golden State Freeway
A 42-year-old Saugus man was killed when his pickup truck slammed into a shuttle van stopped on the shoulder of the northbound Golden State Freeway, authorities said Friday.
Jeffrey Gosser was fatally injured when he was thrown partially out of his Chevrolet pickup, said CHP Officer Doug Sweeney of the Newhall station.
Investigators suspect Gosser was driving while drunk, Sweeney said, but are awaiting toxicology reports for confirmation.
At 11 p.m. Thursday, Prime Time shuttle van driver Feliks Guberman pulled onto the shoulder just south of Calgrove Boulevard to read a map, Sweeney said.
Guberman had been idling for about 10 minutes when the pickup sideswiped the van, knocking it onto its right side, Sweeney said.
The pickup flipped over onto its roof and skidded into the slow lane of the freeway, Sweeney said. Gosser was pronounced dead at the scene.
Guberman was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, Sweeney said. There were no passengers on the van.
