Deed Forgery Should Not Go Unpunished
California is a state that will throw you in the clink for a lifetime if you steal a loaf of bread, but if you become incorporated you can steal a house or two or three without danger of incarceration [“Hitting Home,” July 26]. Call it three strikes and you’re rich!
Characteristically, legislators and enforcement people have no stomach to go after white-collar hanky-panky. They protest that for one reason or another they are powerless to obtain a conviction, and once again it’s get out of jail free for the well-connected.
Regarding the case of loan fraud in these parts, it smells like some payola has been spread around to keep the house theft scam well out of harm’s way.
