A fight between members of two warring families in Koreatown ended in a shootout with police early Sunday. No officers were hurt, police said.

One of the men involved in the fight was injured before officers arrived at the scene, and he was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of a stab wound.

Police arrested Gregorio Barrera on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and Marcelino Jimenez on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. No ages for the two were available.

The gunfight erupted about 2:30 a.m. after two officers on patrol near Normandie Avenue and 8th Street heard gunshots, and a short time later were flagged down and directed to Mariposa Avenue and 8th Street, said Officer Eddy Zelaya.

There, police saw a gunman, identified as Jimenez, shooting at Barrera, who was running toward the officers. The gunman continued firing and the officers got out of their police car and returned fire, said Zelaya.

No one was hit in the exchange of gunfire. Police recovered a semiautomatic pistol believed used by the gunman.

Zelaya said Barrera and Jimenez were members of two families involved in a longtime feud, but could not say what sparked the fight.
