A man shot his former girlfriend who had just arrived at work at a Pasadena radio station, then turned the gun on himself Tuesday, police said. Both were in critical condition at a local hospital.

The woman, a receptionist, was shot once in the head after she entered the office building where radio station KALI (1430) is based. The man then shot himself in the head, said police spokeswoman Janet Pope. Police did not release their names.

Police said they do not know whether the man followed the victim or was waiting in the building at 747 E. Green St.

“We are all praying for her,” said Nawania Lyles, gospel program director of the radio station.

“They were high school sweethearts . . . she had broken off the relationship and hadn’t heard from him in a while until she got into a relationship with another guy,” Lyles said. “Then he starts calling her and sending gifts. The last thing he sent was a dozen roses on Friday to the station. She was scared.”
