Long Beach becomes a bit Chicago and a bit Mississippi Delta when the KLON-FM Long Beach Blues Caravan moves into 11 locations scattered throughout the city--six within walking distance of one another in the city’s downtown Pine Avenue district. Performers will include Joe Houston, Finis Tasby, Doug McLeod and John “Juke” Logan. Ticket price includes bus transportation between venues and entry to all clubs.

8 pm: Comedy

The Morning Star Commission of Hadassah Southern California presents “Jewish? You Don’t Look Funny,” an evening of laughs at the Comedy Store. Emily Levine will emcee the event, which will feature performances exploring the images of Jewish women in television and film. On the bill: Wendy Liebman (HBO’s “Women of the Night” and “Comic Relief”), Bruce Vilanch (comedy writer for the Academy Awards and Emmys), Rhonda Shear (USA’s “Up All Night”), Shelly Goldstein (“The Tracey Ullman Show”), Beth Lapides (LunaPark’s “Uncabaret”) and special guest David Steinberg. Proceeds will benefit the Morning Star Commission, dedicated to encouraging non-stereotyped images of Jewish women in the media and entertainment industries.

3 pm: Pop Music

Today’s concert at Borders in Santa Monica is just a warmup for a mammoth gathering of hook-happy musicians. Dubbed International Pop Overthrow, the 11-day festival will attract upward of 140 bands from around the world to a variety of clubs and theaters in L.A. and Orange counties. The Borders lineup is a microcosm, matching local acts with visitors from Canada (Happyman) and France (William Pears).
