Christine L. Whiteman; Longtime Area Resident

Longtime Ventura County resident Christine L. Whiteman died Wednesday. She was 84.

Whiteman was born in Merkle, Texas, on Aug. 6, 1914. She is the daughter of the late Mayme Seymour, a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Ventura.

Whiteman moved to Ventura County in 1923 and graduated from Ventura High School. She married Morris P. Woolley, the owner of Woolley Aviation, in 1946, and moved with him to Hawaii for a few years before returning to the county in 1951.

She retired in 1969 from her job at a local title insurance and trust company, where she worked for many years, her family said. Whiteman had a number of business ventures and career experiences and was known and respected in the business community, her family said.

She was volunteer for many years at the gift shop in St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Family and friends described Whiteman as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Whiteman was preceded in death by her second husband, real estate appraiser Bud K. Whiteman.

Whiteman, a Port Hueneme resident, is survived by her daughter, Monica Woolley of Hawaii; and a brother, Bert Seymour, a former Ventura County undersheriff now living in Sacramento.

There will be a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Ivy Lawn.
