D.A. Seeks Families to Give $6 Million in Child Support

Share

Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti announced Thursday that he is looking to give about $6 million in undistributed child support to 4,800 families whom his office cannot locate.

At a news conference, Garcetti announced that lists of people who are owed child support will be posted at libraries and on his office’s World Wide Web site next week.

The $6 million represents money the office collected from absent parents, primarily fathers, but could not distribute to the families for whom it was intended.

People who believe they may be owed child support can write to the district attorney’s Unclaimed Child Support Fund at P.O. Box 911040, Los Angeles, CA 90091-1040.

The World Wide Web site is at:

Garcetti said that last year was “a banner year” for child support collections in the county, with a record $257 million collected.
