Little Leaguers Have Already Won at Least Two Parties
Proud residents are planning a grand reception for the city’s Little League team, which has advanced to the World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
“We’ll have some type of homecoming for them no matter how they place,” said Patty Bailey, recreation service manager in Cypress. “What they have accomplished could be one in a lifetime for them.”
Bailey said a committee will meet next week to finish plans for the celebration, a rally or small parade, to take place at the Civic Center when the team returns home.
A local restaurant that sponsors the team and is televising the Little League games for residents is planning a party of its own.
“I am real stoked,” said Dave Costello, 24, manager of Cypress Family Pizza. “We’ll hook them up with a pizza party. Those little kids are awesome.”
Costello said he expects the crowd that filled the restaurant for the playoffs to grow twice as big when the team plays Monday. Cypress will face the American East champions from Toms River, N.J., starting at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
