Missing Immigrant Is Discovered Safe
A Russian national who disappeared in Newport Beach on Tuesday was found safe Friday walking along the San Diego Freeway in Irvine.
When California Highway Patrol officials, who spotted her on the freeway, checked her identification and found that her visa had expired, the Immigration and Naturalization Service took her into custody. Police said she is seeking voluntary deportation.
The 20-year-old woman left her boyfriend’s apartment Tuesday morning apparently after an argument with him over a cellular phone, according to police. She had been last seen walking along San Joaquin Hills Road.
Police suspected foul play when later that night the woman’s purse turned up in a trash container in Corona del Mar.
