Yingling to Sign With Tigers
Catcher Joe Yingling, Ventura County player of the year, said he will sign today with the Detroit Tigers and report to fall instructional league at Lakeland, Fla., in mid-September.
Yingling, 17, was a 35th-round draft choice of the Tigers in June, but did not decide until Tuesday to sign instead of attending Moorpark College. Yingling, 6 feet 1 and 185 pounds, batted .563 at Camarillo High last season and helped the Conejo Valley Big League team win the World Series on Saturday.
