The Oakland Athletics scored eight runs in the 10th inning, highlighted by Mike Blowers’ two-run double and Jason Giambi’s three-run homer Friday night in a 14-6 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

With the score tied, 6-6, the A’s loaded the bases against Steve Reed (2-2) on two walks and an infield single. Scott Spiezio then lined a 3-and-2 pitch down the left-field line for two runs.

Miguel Tejada followed with a tapper to first baseman Richie Sexson, whose throw to the plate was too late to catch Bip Roberts, who scored standing up.

Rickey Henderson added an RBI single to make the score 10-6, Ryan Christenson had an RBI single and Giambi then hit his 21st homer.

Reed’s earned-run average has swelled from 3.44 to 6.44 since being acquired from San Francisco last month.

The record for runs scored by one team in a 10th inning is 11, set by Minnesota in 1969.
