Lighting Ceremony Set Today at Children’s Court

Share

A concert and holiday program, culminating in the lighting of 50,000 lights, will be held today at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court.

The lights will burn at the courthouse throughout the holidays to raise awareness about the more than 50,000 abused and neglected children under the care of the Children’s Court. The event also will raise money for the county Child Advocates Office, which supplies volunteer advocates for foster children.

More than 300 people currently are volunteers, but hundreds of additional volunteers are needed, program administrators say. Money from the holiday lighting program will be used to help pay the $500 it takes to recruit, train and supervise each volunteer.

The lighting program is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with a concert by Debby Boone, the Bus Boys and the International Children’s Choir. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted.

The Children’s Court is at 201 Centre Plaza Drive in Monterey Park.
