Bad Memories for Convery

Brandon Convery came to where it started Wednesday night, but there was no nostalgia.

You can have Toronto, he says.

“To be honest with you, the memories I had here were bad ones,” said Convery, who centered a Kings’ line with Craig Johnson and Josh Green.

He was the Maple Leafs’ first choice in the 1992 entry draft, the eighth pick overall, but was seen as a bust when his best season in Toronto involved two goals and 10 points in 39 games in 1996-97.

Shortly thereafter, he was gone to Vancouver, and four weeks ago, was picked up by the Kings on waivers.

“Toronto is such a hotbed,” Convery said. “Everybody knows who you are. You can’t hide in this city.

“I was young and first in the draft, and the media jumped all over me. It’s exciting for me to come back and play, but there are no pleasant memories.”

The Kings’ Olli Jokinen was named NHL rookie of the month for November after picking up four goals and four assists in 11 games.

It gave the Senators a 5-1-1 record in their last seven games. Alexei Yashin has 13 points in their last 11 games and leads Ottawa with 14 assists and 21 points.
