Eleven pipe bombs believed to have been made by the same person and randomly placed around San Diego County were found over a 12-hour period, authorities said Sunday.

Authorities say the devices could have seriously injured someone had they been detonated.

“We definitely have a bomb series at work,” said San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Conrad Grayson. “It appears the bombs have been made by the same person, someone who knows what he is doing.”

Five of the 12-inch galvanized steel tubes were discovered in a white cardboard box in Lemon Grove on Friday night, police said.

Five more were found in a similar box at 9 a.m. Saturday in Chula Vista, and at about the same time, a single pipe bomb was discovered inside a white cardboard box in Chollas View, outside the Wat Lau Buddhist Temple. The box also contained several rounds of ammunition.
